How to buy Italian decorative art - Collector’s Tip from Fabienne Cosulich

As with fine art, there is always a market for quality. High-end furniture and objet’s d’art hold their value which means that if you buy them at the right price, they can be a great investment. For example, Vintage Italian design furniture was built to the highest standards of construction and are distinctive for the creativity of their designs as much as for the skillful use of materials. These pieces are made to last for generations. Examples of great designers are: Paolo Buffa, Ico Parisi and Gio Ponti. Similarly, Italian glass has the same quality. Take Murano for instance, where each piece is individually blown to perfection. You can distinguish the real thing from reproductions because the latter does not have the weight that Murano glass does. Some great Maestri glass-blowers are: Archimede Seguso, Ercole Barovier and Vistosi.
