November Special: Nick Weber, Portraits

As a part of Tang’s Featured Artist Program, we are delighted to announce our November special feature is Nick Weber. He lives and works in New York. In his series of portraits, Weber first paints his figures, then actively tarnishes his canvases using destructive forces such as sanding and scraping, which reduce the paintings to vanished versions of their former selves. Weber then rebuilds the image, following his earlier brushstrokes. The act of painting becomes a metaphor for memory and the cycle of creation and destruction.
